The UCSB womenâs soccer team captured their first Big West victory in the 2012 season with a 1-0 shutout over Hawaiâi. The Gauchos were playing host to the Rainbows on UCSB's senior night. Before the match, seniors Erin Ortega, Dyanne Anderson, and Lauren Kennedy were honored in front of a lively Harder Stadium crowd. Erin Ortega took it upon herself to repay the honor with a beautiful strike off a Sara Feder assist to give UCSB the 1-0 lead in the 49th minute. UCSB and Hawai'i battled to a 0-0 tie through the entirety of the first half, but the Gauchos captured the offensive momentum before going into the locker room. After the Ortega goal, Hawai'i attacked the UCSB backline with more intensity but failed to find the back of net. UCSB improved their record to 4-9-1 overall and 1-3-1.
